Two active hurricanes in the Atlantic are generating dangerous surf and rip currents along the U.S. East Coast, the National Hurricane Center reported Tuesday.

Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda are not expected to make direct landfall in the United States, but both are producing hazardous marine conditions that could create dangerous beach and ocean environments through the week.

The National Weather Service office in New Jersey noted the far-reaching effects of the two storms.

“While conditions remain dry and direct impacts are not expected, gusty northeast winds will develop along the coasts later today through Wednesday night,” the weather service said. “Minor coastal flooding will develop with the afternoon and evening high tides on Wednesday.”
