CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A report released Tuesday from the state finds that the Charlotte Area Transit System, also known as CATS, has reduced their armed security by at least 40% since 2018.
The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor published a special report on CATS security on Tuesday, Sept. 30. It’s believed to be the state’s first in-depth look at the contracted security for Charlotte’s public transportation system.
The CATS security audit was in response to the deadly stabbing of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska on a light rail car in August.
Here’s a look at what’s in the new report from the state auditor’s office.
