CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) -A Charlotte grandmother says massive change is needed when it comes to setting bond for people accused of violent crimes.
Mia Alderman’s granddaughter, Mary Collins, was brutally murdered in 2020.
On Monday, Alderman testified before congressional leaders about violent crime in Charlotte. She shared her frustrations and anger over some of the suspects in her granddaughter’s case being let out on bond.
Alderman believes there have been issues across the board regarding Collins’ case. She said that, between the backlog in cases delaying the trial to suspects being granted bond, it’s been devastating as a family to live through the last five plus years.
She said what hurts the most is seeing a suspect in the case out on bond.
