MADISON (WKOW) -- The popular social media app Snapchat will soon start charging some users for storage space if you save photos or videos on the app.
According to a press release from Snapchat, the changes will start in 2026 for anyone exceeding five gigabytes of videos or photos in their "Memories" folder.
The app's cheapest option will give you 100 GB of storage for $1.99/month and the most expensive will give you 5 terabytes of storage for $15.99/month.
Snapchat says users have saved more than one trillion "Memories" on the app, and are easing into the decision by giving a 12-month grace period of free storage for anyone with over 5 GB of data now.
Students on the UW-Madison campus say they are not too happy about the price hike.
