MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Common Council had the opportunity Tuesday to ask development planners questions about the new Bartillon men's homeless shelter.
Leaders hope to keep the shelter open 24 hours a day. Council members asked what the shelter will do when demand for beds exceeds supply. They suggested a new bed reservation system that could show people if beds are available before they travel to the facility.
"That's certainly the concept, that it would be clear to somebody before they show up if there was space at the facility for them or not," said Jim O'Keefe, director of the Community Development Division.
The Bartillon shelter still has many steps to complete before it can open.
