A breezy northeast flow today will continue across the region as high pressure pushes down from the north, while Hurricane Imelda and Ex-Humberto churn well offshore. While neither system will directly impact our state, their energy is reaching our beaches in the form of long-period swells, dangerous surf, and minor to moderate coastal flooding.
A tight pressure gradient between the strong high and offshore systems is keeping winds elevated today. The Outer Banks and Downeast Carteret remain under a Wind Advisory, with gusts as high as 45 mph anticipated throughout the day. Inland areas see gusts between 25–35 mph. Winds will slowly ease tonight into Thursday.
