HUNTINGDON, Pa. (WTAJ) — Residents are being urged to stay alert after reports of scam phone calls from someone posing as a deputy with the Huntingdon County Sheriff's Office.
According to a post on the Huntingdon County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the caller claims the person missed a county or federal court hearing and now has an arrest warrant. Victims are then asked to provide sensitive information, such as a Social Security number or banking details.
Officials stressed that residents should not share personal information over the phone. Anyone with questions is asked to contact the sheriff's office directly at 814-643-0880.
The warning comes as law enforcement across the region continues to see similar scams targeting people by phone.
