ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — South Carolina State University has initiated a campus lockdown after reports of a shooting on campus Saturday night.
The university said its earlier campus alert that police believed shots were fired in the area of Hugine Suites and that they were investigating. The university message told Hugine Suites residents who were were not in the complex to report to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center and those who were at Hugine Suites to "stay put."
Students in other residence halls were told to return to their rooms and off-campus residents were asked to leave the campus.
Authorities said in an update that the Homecoming concert scheduled for the night had been canceled and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) had been called in to investigate
