Virginia Tech dropped a close contest to Wake Forest, 30-23, Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium, as a second-half comeback effort fell short. With the loss, the Hokies fall to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in ACC play.

The game remained tightly contested through the first two quarters, with both teams exchanging scoring drives. Virginia Tech reached the end zone twice in the first half—once on a rushing touchdown by Marcellous Hawkins and again through a touchdown reception by Takye Heath. Wake Forest responded with three touchdowns of its own, heading into halftime with a 24-14 advantage.

In the second half, the Hokies managed to close the gap behind the steady leg of kicker John Love, who tallied 11 total points. His performance moved him into a tie for seventh place on Virginia Tech’s all-time
