SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Registered voters in Louisiana have received mailers from the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office about changes to the state's new closed party primaries.

Louisiana is not completely abandoning its "jungle primary" process. Still, votes cast during the primary for U.S. House and Senate seats, the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Public Service Commission (PSC), and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) will be aligned by party. Other ballot contests will be open to all voters.

This change to certain primaries being closed was made by the Louisiana Legislature, as outlined in Act 1 of the 2024 First Extraordinary Session, ensuring that only registered members can vote for their party's candidate.
