A Richland County Sheriff's Department deputy has been fired following his arrest on a charge of driving under the influence.

According to the sheriff's department, 45-year-old Christopher Duke was arrested Saturday. A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper pulled Duke over for allegedly speeding, then detected signs that led to the arrest and DUI charge. Duke was in a personal vehicle and not on duty at the time.

Duke was immediately suspended without pay and has now been fired. He was employed by the department for 22 years, rising to the rank of major.
