An Independence, Missouri, man faces several charges after allegedly stabbing a city worker in front of witnesses before running away.
Austin R. Lewis has been charged with first-degree attempted robbery, two counts of armed criminal action and first-degree assault, Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Monday. Advertisement
Officers with the Kansas City Police Department were called to the area of Penn Valley Park on Sunday on reports of a cutting.
When they arrived, witnesses told detectives that a man had approached the victim, who was a Kansas City employee cleaning sidewalks, and asked him for a dollar, according to court documents.
The victim did not speak English, so he did not respond. Lewis then stabbed him and fled the scene, court documents said.
