JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a fatal shooting that occurred in April 2024.

On April 5, 2024, Adamsville Police began investigating the murder of 52-year-old Patrick Jamal Johnson .

Johnson was found shot in the 5100 block of Kings Drive around 5:45 p.m.

Police said that Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. An arrest warrant for murder was obtained for Earl Duane Scott.

On Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, Scott was sentenced to 30 years in prison for provocation manslaughter, which under Alabama Code § 13A-6-3 applies when someone is killed in a “sudden heat of passion.”

Johnson was confirmed to be Scott’s brother-in-law and a jury found Scott guilty of the murder in August 2025.
