RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - Drivers in the East who don’t have REAL ID can now beat the wait times to renew their licenses online.

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles has announced that now drivers can renew their licenses online, regardless of it is a REAL ID or not. This change happened after Governor Josh Stein signed Senate Bill 245 into law last week.

According to the DMV, this change is to reduce wait times statewide and is effective immediately.

“We encourage our customers to renew their driver license online if they’re eligible. It’s fast, easy, and helps reduce wait times at our offices,” said DMV Commissioner Paul Tine. “By choosing online services, you’re freeing up space for those who need in-person assistance.
