REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said a deputy shot and killed a man who they say opened fire on deputies trying to serve a warrant.

It happened at a house on Dennis Drive right off Highway 87 near the Rockingham and Caswell County line. Deputies said a woman reported her partner threatened her with a gun around 11 a.m. That's when authorities say five deputies responded to the home to serve warrants on domestic violence charges to the man.

Sheriff Sam Page said when deputies tried to serve the warrant, the man opened fire through the window of the home, leading to a shooting.

Page said the man died from being shot after exiting the home. He has not been identified, but was 31 years old.
