WASHINGTON — As Republicans and Democrats remain deadlocked on how to reopen the government, Kentucky’s GOP Senator Rand Paul is touting his proposal to balance the budget in five years.

The Senate has so far held several votes on Republican and Democrat-led spending bills to reopen the government.

They’ve failed every time.

Paul voted against both of them because of his long-held concerns about the national debt.

Instead, Paul has proposed what he calls a “Six Penny Plan,” which he said would restore “fiscal sanity” by slashing six cents off every dollar projected to be spent over the next five budget years.

It’s just the latest attempt by Paul to attack the nation’s deficit. He has previously proposed one-penny and two-penny plans.
