DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - An uninvolved motorcyclist was hit in the back by gunfire between two cars that were chasing each other, police say.

A motorcyclist was shot around 1 a.m. July 5 in the 200 block of Western Avenue, police said.

On Tuesday, police said they arrested 21-year-old Johntarrius A. Thorpe of Moline, Illinois, in connection with the shooting.

Witnesses told police two cars that were chasing each other turned onto Western Avenue.

Once the cars were on Western Avenue, witnesses said they heard gunfire. Police said both cars had damage from the gunfire.

One of the shots hit a motorcyclist who was waiting at a stoplight. Police said the motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital and later taken to the University of Iowa Hospital for treatment.
