Jean Hernandez has been the Latinx outreach coordinator for AIDS Alabama since 2011, working to guide the Hispanic community through medical crises.

Hernandez is from Puerto Rico. She works to help people who are facing language or cultural barriers.

"I have seen clients that (were) in the Intensive Care Unit, and now they're healthy, they have a baby and they're getting married," Hernandez said.

In 2021, Hernandez became a member of a community advisory board at UAB's O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, WVTM 13 is recognizing Alabamians who broke barriers and are raising the bar for everyone. Stay with us as we honor and celebrate "Hispanic Heritage Moments."
