KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A portion of eastbound I-94 was closed for nearly eight hours on Monday after an early morning crash involving eight vehicles near Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo.

Among the vehicles in the crash were a military vehicle, a semi-tractor trailer and passenger vehicles. Most injuries in the crash were minor, but a 10-year-old child was seriously injured and brought to a nearby hospital.

Michigan State Police (MSP) said the crash occurred when the military vehicle involved lost control, striking the semi which then hit three passenger vehicles. That set off a chain reaction in which three more vehicles were struck.

MSP said they believe speed was a factor in what caused the crash.
