As TriMet braces for deep cuts that could happen as early as November, the mass transit agency is holding online open houses through October for riders to weigh in on the reduced services.
The agency announced the cuts in July, citing a $300 million budget gap spurred by rising costs, declining ridership and Oregon lawmaker’s stalled transportation funding package . Oregon Democrats approved the funding package in September, but TriMet says the state’s tax increases aren’t enough to fill the budget gap.
TriMet spokesperson Tia York told The Oregonian/OregonLive that House Bill 3911 was a band-aid, not a long-term solution, saying the increased state revenue “will delay, rather than avoid, deeper cuts to transit service.”
Although the cuts could begin in November, they’re not expec
