RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Changes could be on the horizon for Raleigh's noise ordinance, with preliminary discussions at this afternoon's City Council meeting to return to enforcing violations based on decibel levels.
The potential changes come more than a year after the city opted to transition its noise ordinance to a "reasonable person" standard, a determination critics say is difficult to determine.
The proposal includes varying maximum decibel readings, determined on the time of day, day of the week, and location in the city.
Businesses in Glenwood South would have a universal standard, with a maximum of 92 dB(C) between 10 a.m. and midnight on weekends that would tone down to 88 dB(C) between midnight and 2 a.m.
