BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — This week, the spotlight is on fire safety, and local fire departments are sparking up lessons for students.

From prevention tips to hands-on demos, crews are showing kids why staying alert can help stop flames before they start. Every year in October, the National Fire Protection Association highlights the importance of fire safety education and prevention across the country.

This year, the Minot Fire Department is spending the week going to different schools around the community and talking to kids about everything from the well-known stop, drop, and roll to the importance of practicing home escape plans.
