COLLEGE PARK, Md. (DC News Now) -- The University of Maryland's Discovery District is adding another big name in 2026.
"The full lab will be built out next year," said Ken Ulman, Chief Strategy Officer for Economic Development at the University of Maryland.
Microsoft will join the Discovery District, following in the footsteps of other tech companies, such as IonQ.
"A lot of folks around the world are focused on quantum technology as the next frontier," said Ulman.
Researchers are hoping that quantum technology will be able to solve complex problems, including those trying to find a cure for cancer.
"Quantum technology is basically harnessing physics, harnessing atoms and ions," Ulman said.
The Discovery District debuted back in 2017, and since then, it has seen rapid growth.
