NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Every year, there are thousands of reports of domestic violence in Nashville.
Sometimes, the women and men who survive get caught up in the criminal justice system and face charges.
In Davidson County, there's an effort to give a second chance to domestic violence survivors who end up in the justice system.

"We are taking them out of the system, which is created to penalize and get them supportive services to get them out of that abusive cycle of violence," Davidson County Assistant District Attorney Christina Johnson said.
The program is called Survivors First.
Johnson heads it up in partnership with the YWCA.
