Police in Coventry have issued a warning to residents after a spate of city burglaries. A series of incidents around the city has seen officers urging people to make sure to lock up - even when at home.

Coventry Police say a rise of this kind of crime is common at this time of year as the days grow shorter.

"Lock your doors – even when you're in," a spokesman for the force has urged. "We see a rise in burglaries and car thefts reported as the evenings draw in. Many happen through unlocked doors and windows. Double-check all entry points, including sheds and porches.

"Lock up - even if you’re just relaxing at home. If you have family or friends over to visit, don't keep your door on the latch - it takes seconds for an offender to take car keys on display."
