Unruly, destructive crowds overran streets in four communities over the weekend during street takeovers, with a cruiser set on fire in Boston , crowds swarming occupied police cars in Randolph , an officer nearly being run over in Middleborough, and forcing an ambulance to reroute in Fall River, police said.

In Boston’s South End, a crowd of more than 100 people threw fireworks, cones, and other objects at police cars, setting one ablaze, early Sunday. Amid the chaos, police arrested two men from Rhode Island , one of whom allegedly hit a cruiser repeatedly with a pole, according to a police report.
