Don Goodman has described Middlesbrough’s start to the Championship season as outstanding - making a comparison to Sunderland last season as he pondered their promotion chances.

Rob Edwards has enjoyed an excellent start to life in the Boro hotseat, with Boro second in the Championship table after nine games. With 18 points on the board so far, their only defeat of the league campaign so far came last time out at Portsmouth.

While that loss highlighted a key area where it’s clear Edwards must now work to improve Boro in, Goodman is impressed by Boro and is rating their promotion chances highly. Making a direct comparison to Wearside rivals Sunderland after their success last term, the EFL expert noted how Boro have a crucial foundation that’s usually key to promotion.
