CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The nation’s first River Roots Festival runs from Wednesday through Sunday along the Ohio Riverfront in downtown Cincinnati and Newport.

It celebrates the Ohio River and its role in American history and kicks off the country’s 250th anniversary.

The largest collection of riverboats in the country will be featured: Nine riverboats from seven of America’s historic river cities, according to the event’s website .

It also honors the diverse cultures, cuisine, and music of the country’s five major river cities.

This is one of several festivities scheduled across the nation leading up to America’s official quarter-millennial on July 4, 2026.

America’s River Roots Festival is a mostly free event, but there are some experiences that require tickets.
