Monchi has revealed how Deportivo La Coruna officials told him star player Yeremay Hernández was not for sale during a visit to Aston Villa this summer.

Hernandez is one of Spanish football's rising stars and has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs over the last year.

Newcastle United, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and others have all been touted as potential destinations for the winger.

But Villa's former president of football operations Monchi was told the player was not for sale as Depor officials made visits to club training grounds across Europe ahead of renovating their own base in Spain.

Villa were also linked with Hernandez, but it was clear he would not be going anywhere.
