CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte native claims to be the first person to swim the 26-mile length of Lake Norman, nonstop and without help.
Pending certification from the Marathon Swimmers Federation, this is the first documented solo marathon swim on Lake Norman.
On October 6, Leslie Hamilton, who now lives in Brooklyn, started her swim at 5:01 p.m. under the Highway 70 bridge over the Catawba River. She ended the swim Tuesday morning at 7:50 a.m. at the boat ramp at Blythe Landing Park.
The entire swim covered approximately 26 miles and was completed in 14 hours and 49 minutes, without stopping or assistance.
