WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Two elementary students in Woonsocket are facing weapons charges after allegedly bringing a gun to school on Wednesday.

Police said an 11-year-old and a 10-year-old were found with a Smith & Wesson CO2 Air Pistol at Globe Park Elementary School.

Other students told a teacher that someone had brought a gun to school and it was in another student's locker in a classroom, according to police. The teacher then found the weapon in a backpack and called police.

The gun was not loaded, but it can fire projectiles, including rubber balls, paintballs and metal balls for tear gas.

Both children were charged in family court with possession of a firearm on school grounds. They were released to their parents.
