AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to a disease affecting one in eight women during their lifetime.
While early screening is encouraged, some are unable to afford yearly mammograms on their own.
To continue assisting those in need of screenings, the Harrington Breast Center will be hosting two events this Saturday.
Dr. Jenks Currie says while some are still skeptical of screening technology, the benefit far outweighs the risk.
“There is a misconception or a little bit of fear about the radiation involved. The radiation that we do or that we use is extremely low dose, and the benefit to getting that mammogram is far outweighed by that negligible amount of radiation,” said Dr. Currie.
A Mammo Party will take place from 8 a.m. t
