GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- It’s Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s campaign is putting a spotlight on a modern household hazard: lithium-ion batteries.

These batteries power everyday devices—phones, laptops, power tools, scooters, and toys. But according to fire safety experts, when damaged or misused, they can catch fire or even explode.

“These are rechargeable items that everybody has,” said Kelly Ransdell with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

The 2025 Fire Prevention Week theme, Charge Into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home, encourages three key steps: buy smart, charge safely, and dispose responsibly.
