KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kay Barnes is Jackson County temporary county executive after the recall of Frank White, but she can only hold the position for at most 30 days. Thursday, the county legislature discussed parameters for picking the interim county executive.

In a meeting that lasted two hours, Democrat Donna Peyton got her resolution passed that calls on the applicants to submit background checks by Monday before a vote could be taken.

Democrats Jalen Anderson and Megan Smith wanted the process slowed down though.

Smith and Anderson want to hold more meetings with the public before the group picks the interim county executive. County leaders are holding listening sessions to gauge public opinion about the process for replacing White.
