DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A large group of neighbors in Durham is pleading with local officials for help after dealing with shootings on a regular basis.

The neighbors are worried about gun violence in the area of Holloway Street and North Briggs Avenue.

"How long will the city allow the sounds of gunfire to dominate our streets as if we were in a war zone?" Durham resident Yohanan Assefa said to the city council during a meeting on Thursday.

"As you hear the sounds of these drive-by shootings that we're experiencing on a weekly basis, I ask you all what you would do if this was happening in front of your homes?" she asked before playing several audio clips of recent shootings.
