Iwant to add my opinion to the rising chorus of townspeople opposed to converting a 100-year-old gem of a public golf course to a solar farm. Full disclosure: I play perhaps 40 rounds of golf per year at Cape Cod Country Club, usually with my Monday all-seniors foursome.
Kudos to the wonderful commentary last week by Beverly Tilden, who pointed out many salient facts about this permanent scarring of 90 acres of land, and to Eric Turkington the week before in this paper. This project includes the cutting down of scores of oxygen-producing, carbon dioxide-consuming and nitrogen-sequestering deciduous trees. Walk the course and behold their immensity and beauty—several are well over 100 years old.
