Police powers will be increased in Coventry city centre and specific surrounding areas this weekend in a bid to tackle violent crime. It comes weeks after a man was shot just outside the city centre.
Coventry Police is keen to tackle such issues, with a spokesman saying combatting "robbery and anti-social behaviour" is also a key focus, in particular around Hillfields. It has been announced increased authority this weekend can see police tell individuals to leave the area.
If they refuse or return officers will have powers to make an immediate arrest.
"We will be using enhanced powers to tackle crime in Coventry city centre this evening," a Coventry Police spokesman said. "From 6pm on Friday until 6pm on Sunday, a Section 34 dispersal order will be in place for the city centre, F
