Also takes commission chair appointment rights away from mayor

The Scottsdale City Council gutted one of Mayor Lisa Barowsky’s major campaign promises during its Oct. 7 meeting.

The council voted 5-1 to remove the mayor’s ability to appoint a chair to the budget review commission and limited the scope of its work. Councilman Adam Kwasman was not present in observance of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

“We want them to succeed which means we want a backyard with a playground but we want a fence with boundaries,” Councilman Barry Graham said while chuckling. “I’m not trying to infantilize them or anything.”

Borowsky, who was the lone vote against the move, took the action personally.
