MERIDEN, Conn. (WFSB) - An 18-year-old from Meriden has been arrested for pistol-whipping a juvenile.

Meriden police say they received multiple calls during the month of September reporting 18-year-old Jhoan Alejandro Almeida-Cando illegally owned a gun.

In one instance, Almeida-Cando was accused of pistol-whipping a juvenile on sidewalk in Meriden.

On Oct. 2., detectives recognized Almeida-Cando exiting a car on Pratt Street. Police say Almeida-Cando fled when he noticed the officers, but was quickly apprehended.

A search of his car found a 9mm Polymer firearm without a serial number. Police say Almeida-Cando does not possess a valid pistol permit and is legally prohibited from carrying a firearm.
