SUMTER, S.C. — Drivers in Sumter should prepare for lane closures and detours along Alice Drive beginning Thursday, Oct. 9, as crews work on a sewer line installation project.

According to the Sumter Police Department, C. Simmons Construction will close the northbound lane of Alice Drive through Monday, Oct. 13. During construction, southbound traffic will be limited to one lane, and Harper Street will be closed to through traffic.

“Our crews will be working as quickly as possible to reopen the road sooner if conditions allow,” officials said in a post on social media.

The project is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements in the area. Officials are asking drivers to plan alternate routes, drive carefully near the work zone, and expect possible delays during the closure period.
