The Phoenix Planning Commission on Monday greenlit a new shopping center planned at the northeast corner of Interstate 17 and Sonoran Desert Drive.
The commission unanimously approved a rezone and general plan amendment to allow for the development. It will go to city council for final approval.

The shopping center will be called Dove Valley Towne Center. The full site is about 130 acres and will include about 62 acres for commercial businesses, 14 acres for hospitality businesses, such as hotels, and 10 acres for a fitness center, according to plans the developer, Vestar, has submitted to the city.
