SEATTLE — The roar of Mariners fans Friday night wasn't just loud — it was measurable.
When Jorge Polanco delivered a game-ending single in the 15th inning to send Seattle to the American League Championship Series, T-Mobile Park erupted with such force that a seismometer detected the ground shaking inside the stadium.
Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh felt the impact on the field days before that historic Game 5 moment.
"It was crazy. As I was hitting third base, you could feel the ground shaking," Raleigh said in an interview following Game 2 of the American League Division Series.
His comments inspired the Mariners to take an unprecedented step: calling in the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network to measure the intensity of fan energy in Friday's winner-take-all game against the Detroit Tig
