CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - It's National Motorcycle Ride Day, which encourages all motorcyclists in the United States and the world to get out on their motorcycles for a united day of riding.
The National Day Calendar states that October offers two reasons to ride a motorcycle. First, it's the end of the riding season, and it is also the month that John B. Dunlop developed the first practical pneumatic tire in 1887. Motorcycles would not perform as they do or be as enjoyable as they are today without this development.
Motorcyclists are at higher risk than automobile drivers while riding the same roads, as they are six times more likely to be injured and 27 times more likely to be killed than car occupants, according to AAA.
