NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A mural abandoned in Northampton's old courthouse building has been brought to a new home, thanks to the efforts of its artist.
The Oxbow mural was created and installed 15 years ago by Vitek Kruta at the Hampshire Probate and Family Court on King Street. In 2019, the court relocated to Atwood Drive, and the mural was deemed too large and fragile to move. It has remained in the empty building for six years, which is now set for demolition.
When Kruta heard that his creation was at risk of being destroyed, he was determined to salvage it. With the assistance of Register of Probate Mark Ames, he removed the 10'-by-18' mural and brought it back to his studio, where he dedicated time to restoring its colors and details over several months. • (Hampshire Probate a
