MACON, Ga. — Two people are recovering after a small plane crashed in a wooded area of Washington County Friday night.

Sheriff Joel Cochran says one of the individuals onboard reported the crash around 9:25 p.m. Friday. The person said their plane went down near Highway 68 and Highway 540.

Deputies, firefighters, and EMS crews quickly responded to the area. Sheriff Cochran said they used drones and coordinated ground searches. They were able to locate the occupants behind the Limestone Plant on Short 68. EMS checked both people on board and were found to have minor injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified and will take over the investigation to determine what caused the crash.
