Book censorship has been very active over the last few years.
Nearly 2,400 unique titles were challenged nationally in libraries in 2024, according to the American Library Association.
While that number is a sharp decline from 2023’s record-high of 4,240 unique books challenged, it remains the third-highest number of reported unique books challenged since ALA began tracking in 1990.
Closer to home within the Peoria Unified School District, a list of all books is always available at individual school libraries for parent review, per Arizona state statue and district governing board policy.
Parents may request this list and submit a request for the book to be reviewed.
