DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Firefighters continue to make steady progress on the Crosby Fire burning inside George H. Crosby Manitou State Park, which has now grown to 260 acres and is 45% contained, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Officials say the fire was caused by a lightning strike earlier this week.

Crews faced challenging conditions on Friday as northwest winds pushed the fire through dry leaves and rugged terrain, adding roughly 50 acres to the blaze.

Despite the growth, containment lines are holding along much of the fire’s perimeter. Firefighters spent the day strengthening handlines on the west and east sides, using natural barriers to prevent further spread.
