CAMP VERDE, AZ (AZFamily) — Two 19-year-old hikers were rescued after a flash flood stranded them in Yavapai County overnight on Friday.

The missing hikers, who started their overnight trip along West Clear Creek outside of Camp Verde on Thursday, were last heard from on Friday at about 2 p.m.

The last messages they sent said they got caught in a flash flood and had to climb up a canyon to escape. The hikers were trying to get to the trail with a limited water supply before communication was lost.

On Friday night, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office initiated a search and rescue operation after the two hikers didn’t return.
