GROTON, Conn. — Four people were taken to the hospital when an apartment building caught fire in Groton Saturday evening.
Accoridng to Groton Fire Chief Robert Tompkins, multiple calls came in about the fire just before 5 p.m. on Saturday for the apartments on Broad Street Extension. The flames started in the third or fourth floor of the building.
The size of the fire prompted a large response and three alarms over the course of the evening. Video sent in by a FOX61 viewer shows heavy flames out of the windows of an apartment on the upper floors.
Chief Tompkins said that multiple people had to be rescued by firefighters by ladder over balcony railings. Four people were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions were unknown at the time of reporting.
