October 11, 1943 - A submarine, later dedicated to the city of Wahoo, was sunk by Japan on Oct. 11, 1943.

The submarine was under the command of Lieutenant Commander DW. Morton and 79 other crew members.

Wahoo was one of the most successful submarines in the pacific before the attack. The submarine was lost until a search began in 1995.

In 2006 a survey team found the Wahoo almost entirely intact.
